Domenico Tullo; Jocelyn Faubert; Armando Bertone (2015)

This study investigated the resource limits for dynamic visual attention across development using a short NeuroTracker training program. The results revealed that perceptual-cognitive functions develop with age, and that NeuroTracker measures can be used for characterizing the development of resource allocation in attentional processes.

Visual Tracking Speed is Related to Basketball-specific Measures of Performance in NBA Players

Mangine, G. T., Hoffman, J. R., Wells, A. J., Gonzalez, A. M., Rogowski, J. P., Townsend, J. R., Jajtner, A. R., Beyer, K. S., Bohner, J. D., Pruna, G. J., Fragala, M. S., & Stout, J. R. (2014)

The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between visual tracking speed (NeuroTracker) and reaction time on basketball-specific measures of performance in NBA competitions. Reaction times did not correlate with on-court performance measures, whereas NeuroTracker scores were a strong predictor of several key performance metrics.

Healthy Older Observers Show Equivalent Perceptual-cognitive Training Benefits to Young Adults for Multiple Object Tracking

Legault, I., Allard, R., & Faubert, J. (2013)

Young adults and healthy older adults both completed a five week program of NeuroTracker training. The results showed that older adults start out with much lower NeuroTracker scores than young adults. However, they also respond to training with strong learning effects, typically reaching the levels of young adults within three hours of distributed training.

Perceptual-Cognitive Training of Athletes

Faubert, J., & Sidebottom, L. (2012)

This paper outlines the foundational concepts for the application of perceptual-cognitive training techniques (NeuroTracker) for the assessment and enhancement of athletic performance. It also presents a study NeuroTracker learning in relation to dual-task loads, revealing that learning effects are sensitive to motor-skill loads.

Cholinergic Potentiation Improves Perceptual-Cognitive Training of Healthy Young Adults in Three Dimensional Multiple Object Tracking

Mira Chamoun, Frédéric Huppé-Gourgues, Isabelle Legault, Pedro Rosa-Neto, Daniela Dumbrava4, Jocelyn Faubert and Elvire Vaucher (2017)

This study examined the short and long term effects of Donepezil (DPZ) pharmacological enhancement on cognitive functions and learning related neuroplasticity using a NeuroTracker training program. NeuroTracker learning rates were heightened (compared to controls), and beneficial effects with sustained learning outcomes on NeuroTracker were seen up to 14 months later than initial training.

Driving Simulator Scenarios and Measures to Faithfully Evaluate Risky Driving Behavior: A Comparative Study of Different Driver Age Groups

Jesse Michaels, Romain Chaumillon, David Nguyen-Tri, Donald Watanabe, Pierro Hirsch, Francois Bellavance, Guillaume Giraudet, Delphine Bernardin, Jocelyn Faubert (2017)

This study investigated correlations between mental workload, age, and NeuroTracker measures, with driving performance in 3 simulated scenarios. The goal was to see if these factors could be predictive of driving risks. Strong correlations with many driving specific performance metrics were found, including crash risk, emergency driving behavior, and average driving speed.

Three-Dimensional Multiple Object Tracking Speed Thresholds are Associated with Measures of Simulated Driving Performance in Older Drivers

Heather Woods-Fry, Swanti Deut, Charles A. Collin, Sylvain Gagnon, Jocelyn Faubert, Michel Bédard, Shawn Marshall (2017)

This study tested the theory that driving performance is strongly associated with dynamic processing of multiple objects, by evaluating if NeuroTracker measures correlate with older driving performance in simulated scenarios. Highly significant correlations were found between NeuroTracker thresholds and both crash rate and lane deviation in the highway driving scenarios. This study adds plausibility to the idea that a multiple object tracking test such as NeuroTracker could be a candidate for inclusion in an assessment battery for older drivers.

Perceptual-Cognitive & Physiological Assessment of Training Effectiveness

Jaclyn A. Hoke, Christopher Reuter, Thomas Romeas, Maxime Montariol, Thomas Schnell, Jocelyn Faubert (2018)

As part of a multi-year research project, the goal of this study is to develop methods for assessing the efficacy of training (including live and simulated platforms), by validating measures of cognitive workload that characterize skill acquisition. NeuroTracker assessments were performed during live and simulated flight at different difficulties of maneuvers, with assessment of technical performance and physiological metrics. NeuroTracker measures effectively revealed the cognitive loads involved with each level of flight.

Effect of Age and Stereopsis on a Multiple Object Tracking Task

Marjolaine Plourde, Marie-Eve Corbeil, Jocelyn Faubert (2017)

3D vision (binocular stereo) develops during childhood and tends to reduce after 65 years of age. This study aimed to investigate whether these effects are significant when processing complex and dynamic motion. The results showed significant differences with adults for a stereo advantage, but less so for children, and even less for older people. This indicates NeuroTracker can be used to isolate and measure specific capacities for dynamic stereo visual processing.

Above and Beyond Driving Abilities: Toward a Single Index

Dr. Romain Chaumillon, Prof. Delphine Bernardin, Jesse Michaels, Jocelyn Faubert (2018)

This study aimed to combine several tests known to assess driving fitness and propose a methodology to bring these together under a single index termed the ‘Driver’s Safety Index’. NeuroTracker scores correlated strongly with driving performance metrics in driving simulator tests. NeuroTracker scores were also a better predictor of driving performance than age. The study authors recommend that NeuroTracker should be a component in the battery of tests for obtaining or renewing a driving license.
